Florida Blog Hop!

Welcome to the Sunshine State! Enjoy yourself as you take a tour around our wonderful {and large!} state! Grab some freebies along the way, and be sure to enter to win our Bundles of Sunshine!

I am a true Florida girl, a Florida native, and I've never lived anywhere else! I've lived in 3 different Florida cities. I grew up in South Florida (Coral Springs area), went to college and stayed awhile in Gainesville, and now I'm in the Tampa area.

I know it's kind of odd, but I'm actually not a huge beach person even though I've lived near the coast for most of my life. However, if you ever find yourself in the Tampa area, the beach is a must! Since the beaches on this side of the state are the Gulf, the water is very calm. Many of the beaches over here even have soft, powdery sand to sink your toes into. Just a tip, being that Florida is brutally sunny and hot year round, bring a chair and umbrella so you don't melt!                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               This picture is actually from 2 weeks ago at Indian Rocks Beach where my hubby and I spent our anniversary weekend! Gorgeous views and great sunsets!!! Whenever we're on a trip I'm the person to look up restaurants, read reviews, and find the best places to eat. I'll save you some time for your trip to Tampa (because you know you want to come!) and tell you some of my favorite Tampa restaurants!

Datz is a super unique restaurant. Lots of sandwiches, comfort food, and these deliciously, amazing homemade chips with a creamy blue cheese drizzle... so good!!

My husband and I stumbled upon Green Lemon by mistake before we had even moved to town. It is now our go to restaurant when we are in the South Tampa area. It's Mexican-style food but in a lighter (healthier?) way.

Apparently I'm really loving the Mexican food restaurants around Tampa because Taco Son is another one of my favorites! It's quick and fresh, no greasy and heavy food from here!

After dinner you'll need dessert and other than yogurt shops (which I love) Cupcake Cache is my favorite! I've tried almost every one of their chocolate-based cupcakes and of course, I love them all! They have tons of different flavors and combinations, and oh, did I mention they are stuffed with yummy goodness on the inside?!

I can't reach out and give you any free samples of this yummy food through my blog, but this weekend you can stop by each of our blogs for an activity or idea to use in your classroom. We also have freebies for you to enjoy! To grab my freebie just click on the image below.

Grab these vowel pages from my newest pack and read more about it below!

DIY Blogging & TpT Planner

I recently found myself very, very busy with blogging, Facebook hops, blog hops, sales, linkys... you get it! I was starting to sweat a little bit with everything I had to remember. I'm really, really bad with using planners. I write things down and make it look all nice and cute and then I never look at it!!! I'm going to try and break that pattern, but just in case I don't, I didn't want to go out and spend money on a planner that could get wasted.

So here's what I did ... I made my own with the help of a couple products from some of my new blogging friends!

I started with an old spiral notebook. I have so many of these around my house from my college days...

I printed another amazing cover from Kelly over at Sweet Sounds of Kindergarten. (I now have 3 notebooks with these covers!) She has this amazing pack where you can add your blog button or name to a page and use it for TpT planning, blog planning, classroom planning, and more. You just have to print and attach to a notebook (or slip into a binder). I used double-sided tape to attach mine to the cover.
Click here to see her awesome notebook covers!

After making the outside of my notebook look pretty, it was time to make the inside look good! I printed off these calendars from my friend Alexis over at Laugh, Eat, Learn. When I printed the calendars, I used the "custom scale" option and printed at 90% so I could cut them down to fit. I also printed in black and white to save a little color ink (I have lots of printing to do for back to school!)
Click here to see these fantastic calendars!

Once all my calendars were printed and cut, it was time to start taping them into the notebook. Since July is almost over I put it on the first page.

I knew I would need more space for the rest of the months so I put each month on the left side, skipped 2 pages, and then taped the next month. That way I'll have room to write notes about blog posts, hops, linkys, etc.

And here it is! I already have the July and August calendars filled in with lots of fun blogging events coming up! Since it's so cute and I made it all on my own I'm hoping I'll be more inclined to use it!

Ask me in 6 months how my blogging planner is...

Monday Made It - Finally!

I finally made it to a Monday Made It linky party with 4th Grade Frolics!!
(Took me long enough...and I actually almost forgot!)

I jumped on the spray painting bandwagon because who wouldn't want to be on that wagon?! I found cheap, wooden letters at Michael's. I had 25% off my entire purchase and one set of the letters was on clearance so the bargain hunter in me was very happy! I bought 3 cans of spray paint at Lowe's (believe me, I wanted to buy many more) and I was able to use my military dependent ID (thank you hubby!) to get a discount! (More bargain hunter happiness!)
So what did I make? READ it for yourself!

Ta da!! I plan on sticking them to the wall in my library corner. They are pretty lightweight so I'm thinking the sticky stuff from 3M hooks will hold them up.

Now that I have 3 cans of spray paint, the possibilities are endless! I have a list of things I want to spray now...

On Saturday we had some people over for a pool party. It was more of an event for a group my husband is a part of. Still, I needed to put my mark on this party so invited a couple teacher friends and then I created signs!! My husband even requested the "leave your shoes" sign.
If only the recycling sign had worked better....I still found myself picking food garbage out by the end of the night.

Now let's talk food... I maybe overdid it on the food but I have all these "party time" recipe pins that I never get to use! So, I made a cucumber salsa (top right picture), corn salad (bottom left picture in the bowl), but the best by far were the antipasti salami cup bites. I made 24 and they were gone before I could have a 3rd!! I'll definitely be making those again!
If you're curious, here's the recipe - Antipasti Salami Cup Bites

Well, that's it for me this week, but I'm just happy I finally made it to the Monday party!

Back 2 School Linky - Behavior Management

I'm in denial that it's already mid-July so I'll just keep pretending that I don't see all the back to school supplies in stores (and also in my spare bedroom...). Even if you're in denial like me, be sure to check out the weekly link up from Mrs. D's Corner and Miss V's Busy Bees because there's going to be lots of great tips for back to school!

This week is all about behavior management. I can't wait to read what everyone says about this! It's my favorite topic! I work really hard at the beginning of each year to make sure my new Kinder kiddos know exactly what I expect of them so we can have a successful year.

This may surprise you, but up until last year I had never used a behavior clip chart! The only reason I use one now is because my school sees it as the "core" behavior system for all the students. Needless to say, my students' clips are used on our literacy station chart and my behavior clip chart is just on display... whoops!

So what do I do instead? Well, that's a whole other blog post I have planned but... I have this funky "pocket" system where my kids earn popsicle sticks and put them in these magnetic pockets on the board. Each day they start fresh with earning sticks - unlike the clip system where you start on a certain color and move up or down. My "pocket/stick" system is all about earning!
As you read tip #2 below, you'll see that I like to focus on the positive...

Once school gets started (or once I'm no longer in denial and head back to my classroom) I'll take some pictures of how I set up and use this system and I'll get a whole post up for you!
Click on this picture and look in the background. You can see the pockets with sticks!
I promise I'll get better pictures and a more in-depth explanation for you soon!

In the meantime, here's what I'll tell you about today! *BRAG TAGS!!*
I started using these last year and fell in love! Easy, cheap, and doesn't involve candy or my treasure box as a reward! My students love earning these little tags to put on their backpacks. Best and easiest behavior management system that I've tried! I don't know what it is about a little piece of paper, but my kids loved earning these! Brag tags are just a simple way to reinforce and reward those positive behaviors we are looking for without focusing on the negative.

I'm a "focus on the positive" kind of girl so I try to model that with my
behavior management in the classroom! My students know what brag tags are available for earning and when I create new ones I'm sure to share it with them. This is an easy way to remind them of my expectations! I love seeing how the students react when one of their friends earn a tag...a little straightening up in their seats and some hardcore paying attention. Like I said, focus on the positive and you'll get it!!

I currently have 8 brag tag packs in my store and 5 brag tag freebies!
The newest addition to my brag tag collection are these award tags. These tags are for daily, weekly, monthly, or even quarterly recognition! This is a whole lot easier than printing a certificate or writing out an award!

Just print, laminate the whole page, and cut! Punch a hole at the top and have your students hang them on backpack keychains or make necklaces to wear at school!

I'm also working on a new pack of tags by request.
(Yes, I take requests!! Just leave it in a comment here or in the Q&A in my store. I love hearing your ideas!) The new pack will have those milestones that kids should just know - how to write their first and last name, phone number, address, birthday, left from right, etc.

Here's a little something to start off your school year and brag tag collection! This is from my special school days pack. Just click on the image to grab your freebie!
